Birds

Now that one of my favorite bloggers has advised me how to make my iPhone photos appear automatically on my iPad, I can share with you some vetted photos of my trip to Galveston last weekend with my mom.

Here are some shots I took when I went for my 5-mile walk Sunday morning. The morning grew more beautiful as the storm clouds gathered. Eventually I cooled off in a welcome 10-minute downpour. Later that day as we were packing to head home, there was quite a storm. A Galveston thunderstorm: perfect end to the weekend.

I took my mom and her most excellent cat to the beach house for the weekend.

We did some birding (me and mom, not me and the cat), and I got the best kind of exercise–on the beach. Yesterday morning I finished Couch to 5k Week 1 Day 3 on the beach. I plan to shall stick with the program and be back to running a 5k within 2 months. I’ll get another four miles of irritation-zapping walking in this morning, which hopefully will hold me over on the long drive to my mother’s home in Northwest Houston. Yes, I love my mother; and still she irritates me. But I’ve been a good girl (mostly), and have been patient with her. Or at least more patient than I had been before the roof caved in.

Maybe I should err on the side of caution and shoot for 5 miles after I finish my coffee.

What follows are a few shots of the beach. I forgot my real camera, but took over 200 shots on my iPhone. I wanted to review them on the larger screen on my iPad and post only those most worthy of you, my discerning readers. Sadly I can’t figure out how to transfer photos from my iPhone to my iPad except to email them to myself one by one. But I only have that kind of patience when it comes to wooing stray cats. (And certainly not mothers.) I gave up after transferring about 30 photos. Here’s a few of the 30:

Capture from my iPad just now as I’m finishing my coffee. Yes, I was feeding the birds.

There’s a rather large number I haven’t yet transferred of our birding excursion on 8-Mile Road. I shall research a mass photo transfer and post a few keepers in the days to come.image

I’ve been to two classes in my Photography 101 course. I think I need a remedial course so I’ve ordered Nikon D3200 for Dummies. I hope a book for dummies is remedial enough for me. Here are some of the photos I took last weekend in Tucson, after class #1. I actually shot some of these in manual mode. But for some I relied on “landscape.” I now know I cannot operate my camera in anything other than the various auto modes without reading glasses.

There are only four of us in the group: a couple from California and a Scottish woman who lives in Australia. And me; the lawyer from Austin. One of our hosts, David, is an English filmaker who now lives in Tuscany. He’ll be leaving us tomorrow to go to the Cannes film festival. He invited me to go with him. Maybe next time, although I’ve surely made a new friend to meet up with at South By Southwest. The man loves Austin.

Today I awoke with the sunrise to a cacophony of birds. Beautiful. Here’s the view from my bedroom window:

We have two cooking classes today, lunch and dinner. Right now, I’m off for a cappuccino. Before i go, here are a few pics from yesterday:

What I remember most about my childhood is moving vans and boxes. But no matter where we lived—Chicago, Saginaw, Denver, Long Island, Houston, Charlotte—we always spent our summers in the same place: Lake Superior, Ontario. Here are some photos from my last visit, September 2011. I took over 500 shots, so I had a tough time choosing.

Here are a few photographs of what kept me company as I had my coffee this morning. I love spring, with the explosion of jasmine and the Monarch butterfly migration. I hope to capture some better shots of the butterflies in the days to come.

Nature therapy is the best kind of therapy.
